Breaking the Stigma: Cambridgeshire's Mental Health Champions (2026)

Unveiling the Stigma: How a Podcast is Changing the Game for Mental Health in Cambridgeshire

Uncover the truth behind the veil of mental health stigma in Cambridgeshire with our new podcast, 'Side by Side'.

In a bold move to tackle the often-overlooked mental health challenges faced by men, a new podcast is set to make waves in Cambridgeshire. The first episode features Gary Clarke, a former prison officer turned mental health advocate, and Allan Hughes, CPSL Mind's co-production lead. Together, they shed light on the importance of mental health awareness and support, particularly for fathers.

Both mental health champions are dedicated to supporting fathers through CPSL Mind's perinatal services, including the Andy's Man Club in Peterborough. Clarke, in his Perinatal Project Dads Worker role at CPSL Mind, is now reaching out to dads across Cambridgeshire, breaking the taboo surrounding mental health and encouraging them to be the best version of themselves.

"Life can be tough, and men often feel the pressure to provide, but we're breaking that taboo," Clarke said. "Mental health is about being the best you can be, not the best others expect."

Hughes added, "These discussions are raw, real, and timely. We're proud to collaborate with CPSL Mind to make mental health support approachable."

The 'Side by Side' podcast will be available on CPSL Mind's YouTube channel, with future episodes covering youth mental health and other local initiatives. The CPSL Mind team will also be at Cambridge United Football Club on February 14th, supported by the Cambridge United Foundation, to highlight their ongoing commitment to community mental health.

But here's where it gets controversial... Are we doing enough to support men's mental health? What do you think? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.
