Dubai: Muhammad Abu Bakar Imtiaz, a 26-year-old entrepreneur from Punjab, Pakistan, arrived in Dubai in 2014 with a dream of building a better future. He left his small farming life behind, seeking opportunities in the UAE. Imtiaz's journey is an inspiring tale of determination, resilience, and strategic decision-making, showcasing how a humble background can lead to remarkable success.
The Spark of Ambition
"Like many immigrants, I came here with the hope of a brighter future," Imtiaz shares. "Back home, opportunities were limited. I believed that hard work could pave the way for a successful venture."
His father, a mathematics teacher in the government school system, provided a stable foundation. Imtiaz helped support the family by working on their small farm, but his aspirations went beyond the farm. The UAE, with its reputation for safety, stability, and business-friendly environment, became his beacon of hope.
Starting from the Ground Up
Initially, Imtiaz aimed to enter the transport business, but the high cost of a UAE driving license made it unattainable. He decided to start from the lowest rung, taking on a job as a building cleaner. This seemingly mundane role provided him with valuable exposure and a sense of confidence.
A turning point came when a contact offered him an office assistant position on Sheikh Zayed Road. While the role involved mundane tasks like opening the office and serving tea, it opened his eyes to the professional world. Imtiaz's discipline and eagerness to learn caught the attention of his employers.
The Real Estate Breakthrough
When the company needed someone to collect property inventory in Sonapur and Al Muhaisnah, Imtiaz seized the opportunity. This seemingly simple task exposed him to the real estate market directly. His dedication and willingness to learn impressed management, leading to a shift from office assistant to real estate agent.
The initial months were challenging, with inconsistent leads and communication hurdles. Colleagues doubted his suitability for real estate, suggesting delivery work instead. But Imtiaz's determination prevailed. He secured a deal for multiple units in Muhaisnah, arranging viewings the same evening and closing the deal the next day. This triumph marked a turning point in his self-perception, proving his ability to thrive in the industry.
Choosing Independence Amidst Challenges
After disagreements over commissions, Imtiaz decided to venture out on his own. In October 2020, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, he launched Inspire Properties Management. The timing presented unique challenges, as buildings required security, maintenance, and utilities even with low occupancy. Revenue plummeted while costs soared, resulting in a loss of Dh400,000 in 2021.
Instead of giving up, Imtiaz demonstrated his resilience. He negotiated with the property owner, promising to pay the full amount and requesting a grace period of eight months. This strategic move paid off, as the business turned a profit within that timeframe.
Expanding Horizons
Inspire Properties Management expanded across Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman, managing over 2,000 residential units. Imtiaz's success attracted clients like Emaar, ENOC, RTA, and Amlak. Building on his success, he launched Home Keys Real Estate in 2021, establishing a full brokerage operation with dedicated teams for sales, marketing, HR, and finance.
Imtiaz's growth strategy involved diversification. He expanded into technical services, facilities management, contracting, marketing, tax advisory, document clearing, and tourism. His passion for cricket and community engagement led to the establishment of a sports events company.
Today, Imtiaz oversees eight companies operating across multiple sectors, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and strategic vision.
People Over Profits
Imtiaz's success is measured by the success of his people, not just the balance sheets. His first employee is now a business partner, and several early team members hold equity in his companies. Imtiaz believes in rewarding loyalty and commitment.
"If someone stood with me when I had nothing, they deserve to grow with me," he says. His teams are built through a mix of local hires and overseas recruitment, emphasizing market experience and long-term loyalty.

Imtiaz attributes his success to the UAE's stability, safety, and forward-thinking leadership. He believes the country's structured approach to opportunity allows individuals to recover from setbacks and thrive.
Now 37, Imtiaz continues to expand carefully, embracing challenges as part of the journey. He remains focused and honest, confident that Dubai will continue to provide the platform for his entrepreneurial endeavors.
