Significant traffic disruptions are currently affecting the M5 highway close to Bristol, primarily due to a protest taking place at Portbury Docks. This demonstration has resulted in substantial delays, particularly around junction 19 of the motorway.
Motorists should be aware that congestion is building on the A369 Martcombe Road as well, with southbound traffic on the M5 reportedly queuing back to the M49 interchange. These developments have been confirmed by traffic monitoring service Inrix, which highlights the extent of the delays.
To manage the situation, Avon and Somerset Police are present at the location, working diligently to alleviate the growing backlog of vehicles. Meanwhile, National Highways has advised drivers to factor in additional travel time and consider alternative routes to avoid the affected areas.
The Bristol Port Company, which oversees operations at the dock, has been contacted for further comments regarding the situation.
